10 UNEXPECTED BENEFITS OF A CLEAN HOME
I’m the outlier, the person who unlike most others actually loves to clean.
Something I instinctively realized at a pretty young age was the physical and emotional benefits of cleaning your home.
Having seen my share of homes, apartments, and businesses, I can tell you there are some unexpected benefits of a clean home that most people don’t even think about or realize until their dwelling has been given a deep clean.
You see, when you’re surrounded by clutter, dust bunnies, dirt, and grime, it’s easy to want to turn a blind eye to it all.
My experience has shown me time and time again that people put the blinders on to their messy homes and turn their focus to something they would rather be doing.
Before they know it, the house is in shambles and the dirt is everywhere making it even less enticing to clean.
This method, of course, leads to many issues both environmental and personal for the people residing in the home.
A Main Benefit of Cleaning is Health
A dirty home can exacerbate asthma, pass around colds, and spread dangerous bacteria.
Your home doesn’t have to be sterile; but a clean, dust-free environment can help keep all family members healthy all year long.
It Keeps You Organized
When you have a clean home you usually have an organized home too.
Plus, cleaning requires you to become a bit more organized than you might be used to.
It’s Less Risky
Cleanliness also lends itself to fewer accidents. When clutter abounds, it makes it increasingly difficult to navigate safely.
This is especially so for small children who are just learning to walk and the elderly whose balance may be compromised.
It Fosters Calm
The outside world is chaotic enough so why would you want to replicate that chaos in your home?
When you gain peace and tranquility from the outside world. You step into your home, close the door and leave the noise, confusion, and chaos outside.
You don’t bring it inside, where it doesn’t belong.
It Supports Minimalism
Clean and orderly homes have less stuff inside of them and foster an opportunity to embrace the concept of minimalism.
Before you know it, you see the benefits of less rather than more and move away from collecting and move closer to discarding.
It Makes You Happy
I have never met anyone who was happy with their cluttered, disorganized and dirty home.
On the contrary, every person I’ve ever cleaned for touts how much happier they are living in a clean and tidy environment.
Growing up with parents who were messy and disorganized instilled in me a deep desire to live in a clean home.
My mom was always in a state of anxiety over the situation of the house, and I knew at an early age I didn’t want to experience that kind of stress over something that could easily be remedied.
Clean and organized makes me feel happy, but more importantly, it eliminates the stress that’s caused by the chaotic environment.
There’s nothing wrong with finding happiness in the simplest things and clean and organized does it for me.
You’re Always Ready for Company
When you’re home is clean and organized you can have company drop by unexpectedly and not be embarrassed.
And you can entertain at a moment’s notice too because you’re home is in great shape and ready for whatever you might want to do.
It Supports The Environment
Believe me, it’s much easier just to toss in the trash what I don’t want, but thinking of what landfills look like all across the country with discarded belonging that still has life and usefulness in them makes my heart hurt.
Because I’m not buying in excess, using green products to clean my home, and regularly give away rather than toss what I no longer want or need I’m doing my part in taking care of our beautiful world.
You Can Find What You Need
When you’re home is clean and tidy you know where things are located, and therefore, you don’t have to rush out to buy something you can’t find.
I remember helping my friend tidy up her office and while we were organizing and cleaning she realized she had seven staplers. Seven!
She had purchased many of them because she couldn’t find a stapler when she needed one.
You Save Money
Being able to find what you need saves you money as in the story of my friend with the seven staplers. But when you’re home is clean, and you clean it regularly this also saves money.
When you take care of your belongings, they last longer and require fewer repairs or replacements. If you’re looking to save money, consider cleaning more regularly to keep your belongings in tip-top shape.
It Makes You More Productive
Seriously – being clean and tidy makes you more productive at work. Studies show that people who live and work in clean environments tend to be more focused and productive at work, letting them generate better results and earn more money.
You Have A Sense of Accomplishment
When you clean and you take a step back and see everything you just tackled you immediately get a sense of accomplishment.
It’s another thing crossed off the to-do list, and you’re thrilled!
